I finally finished updating my childhood playhouse, now known as Elin's Playhouse! Dad and Bjorn helped so much. This house was moved to my parents around 1996 and was given to us from family friends. They had built it probably around 1990 or even earlier.
I have SO many memories with this playhouse. Lots of tea parties with friends and American Girl dolls. I know a picture of me holding my Samantha doll exists and I have been trying to find it!
The house needed a lot of work. Structurally it was pretty sound, but the floor was sagging. We ripped out the old floor, added new joists for more support, and then installed a new floor on top. Extra trim work and caulking was added to help with aesthetic but also to keep bugs out! A fresh coat of paint on the inside and out really transformed it. I decided to keep the original ceiling color that my mom had painted...blue with gold stars. It was in perfect condition and Elin already liked looking up at the stars so it had to stay! The original built in table and benches were taken out, sanded, and reinstalled. I kept the old curtain rods but made new, updated curtains to go with the new design. I took the original artwork that was hanging in there and framed them. The new floor is so fun! I decided to hand paint it black and white to give it some character. And the beautiful new front door was constructed by my dad. We chose that blue color to match my parents' front door.
Because the house sat on a small slope, I decided to make a rock wall garden bed to level the left side with the right. I was able to find all these rocks on my parents' property and used a wheelbarrow to haul them. Some fresh landscaping with the addition of window boxes give this little house a whole new life. I love how it turned out and that its now a fun play area again for the grandchildren!
Let me know what you guys think!
xo, Karoline
