Household Changes We Made in 2022

Last year was a big year for us since we built a house and moved. SO MANY CHANGES. As we got settled into our new home and new routines, we also changed some of the every day products we use to better the environment and our overall health. Here are the things we changed in 2022 and will continue to use:

I joined the Grove Collaborative subscription this year to make it easier for me to get 'clean' cleaning products delivered right to my door. As a company they will be completely plastic free by 2025. By far the biggest change we made to better the environment is switching to bamboo toilet paper. Bamboo products in general have a much smaller environmental impact. Over 25,000 trees are cut down each day to make toilet paper...so if you want to do something small but make a big impact, switch to bamboo toilet paper.

Bamboo is a highly renewable resource. It is literally the fastest growing plant in the world (why it's so invasive). It can grow up to 35 inches PER DAY. Because of this it can be replenished quickly after being cut and used.

Oh, AND its septic safe.

Also an item I get through Grove, I feel like I've cut my paper towel usage in half because of these. Love that you can just throw them in the dishwasher to clean them. We also switched to bamboo paper towels, but I will be honest and say that they aren't as absorbent as your regular Bounty or Brawny paper towels. So that's why I like having these Swedish Dish Cloths as well.

We have been using these for five years or so actually. We love them in replacement of dryer sheets. If you do want to include a scent, you can put a few drops of essential oil on the ball before you toss it in with your clothes. We like to use lavender.

Dryer balls are reusable, can last up to a year, and reduce drying time by about 25%.

My parents started using these before us, but now we use them too. The Earth Breeze ones we currently use are:

  • Paraben Free

  • Vegan & Cruelty Free

  • Lower Your Carbon Footprint

  • Every Purchase of Laundry Detergent Eco Sheets Donates 10 Loads to Those in Need

  • Hypoallergenic & Dermatologist Tested

  • Phthalate Free

  • Phosphate Free

  • Bleach & Dye Free

  • Works in HE Machines

  • Biodegradable Packaging & Ingredients

I love that these take up less room on the shelf, and you can literally plant the packaging in the dirt after you use all the pods and it completely decomposes, leaving no trace. I think we've all seen the photos of the landfills FILLED with those colorful liquid detergent jugs.

5. Ditched the Pods

I'm not a coffee drinker but my husband is. We had a Nespresso machine since 2015 and went through so many expensive pods. We now have a machine that uses coffee grounds so there is zero single use plastic involved. A plus for me is that I can get my hot water from this machine for my tea.
