Featured Couple: Sarah & James

Sweet Karoline Events

These two are getting married on Saturday and I cannot believe their wedding is finally here!! Sarah and I have spent the last year planning long distance through phone calls, e-mails, and in-person meetings (when we could squeeze them in!). Sarah lives in Atlanta (we were roommates there for two years), and I live near Charlotte so this will be my first long distance wedding. I couldn't feel better about how everything has come together & it has simply been a pleasure working with this couple. Here is a peek into their lives and how their story came about:

1. Let's hear about your love story! How did you two meet?

A friend from my church group went to high school here in Atlanta with James and knew him well from their volunteer work for the school. With our mutual friend’s high praises of James’ character, we went out to dinner on an early December evening. I was incredibly nervous throughout the night and James later told me that I didn’t make much eye contact with him, which I still find very embarrassing. Our second date was at Christ the King where we will be married and our third date was a hike and a trip to Costco so I knew quickly that this match was pretty perfect!

2. What is your favorite thing to do together?

We love intentionally making time to spend with each other amid two full schedules. Trying new restaurants, spending time in the North GA mountains, and going to church are some of our most favorite things to do together.

3. How did James propose?

Admittedly, I am not the easiest person to surprise. Perhaps it is the teacher in me, but I love to make plans, keep lists, and think ahead. James often teases me that I am usually planning our next meal while we are currently eating. To his credit, he pulled off the greatest surprise I have ever experienced on a random Thursday evening at 10:00 PM last November. I was leaving an alumni event for my summer camp and called James to share how tired I was and that I needed to borrow his iron to prepare costumes for my first graders' Thanksgiving performance the following day. I unassumingly pulled into his driveway, proceeded to drop the costumes and exhale in frustration, before opening the door to a dark house. I followed a trail of rose petals and candles to James who was on one knee. He said, "surprise" and I instantly knew that my planning heart could have never designed a moment more special for us than that one.

4. What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?

I am most excited to enjoy the small details of the day, like squeezing my dad’s arm as we nervously walk down the aisle or facing James on the altar as we say our vows. I also cannot wait to celebrate with our guests at the reception and enjoy the band, while making sure to eat cake and late night mini donuts!

5. What is next for the two of you?

After enjoying an island style Thanksgiving in Bermuda, we look forward to celebrating our first holiday season as a married couple and settling into our new life together. In 2018 we are most excited for quiet nights cooking at home, traveling to friends' weddings, and spending quality time with Champ, our now shared boxer.

You could not meet a more kind couple and I am just so happy to be a part of their wedding day. Sarah and James will be married in the Cathedral of Christ the King with a reception at the Atlanta History Center. Cheers to the soon to be Mr. and Mrs. Roberts!
